Today I won't share any recipes, but instead, some thought around growing your own!
Nothing beats a good time outside, whether you have space or not for growing your own, a simple pot on a window seal can give you the confidence of growing the simple garnish that you need all year round.
My Aunt Chantal recently added some ground space for her veggie patch in Vierzon, France Loire Valley and has discovered the therapeutic benefit of being outside in all weather every day!
At my aunt's place, you can wonder all year round and be certain to find something to harvest and nibble on directly from the plant. She has made her retirement a cause to be active and outdoor, something many generations have forgotten. Her health has never been this good!
Since planting, caring, growing and harvesting her own food, my aunt also started what our grandparents used to do on a weekly basis, canning and preserving food for winter. Not only for winter but knowing that this hard labour and countless hours of "Mother Natures" gift was going to be saved and not ending in compost or landfilled.
Back to our window seal, a few dollars can give you an abundance of herbs, garlic, saffron and more. Do it and let it be a new thing, get the kids to have their own and let them grow with it. The feeling of independence and importance is extremely valuable in a world where you can swipe and get it delivered in 4 hours will slowly kill this knowledge of where your food comes from and how it is seasonal or not.
Simple technic and recipe can be found online, just search for it and millions of post will pop in. Pick your own and give it a try, you will not regret it.
Until then, happy gardening!
